What’s New in Nextflow 26.10: Pipeline Composition, Global Cache, and Agentic Nextflow
Nextflow 25.10 introduced workflow params and outputs. Nextflow 26.04 brought records and static typing. Nextflow 26.10 completes the picture: the new language features come together to make pipelines composable, reusable building blocks.
About
Nextflow 26.10 completes a year of language work. The new Global Cache reuses identical task outputs across runs and pipelines. Static typing is now stable, with type errors caught from the command line before a single task is submitted. Workflow modules can be shared through the Nextflow Registry, entire pipelines can be composed into meta-pipelines directly in Nextflow, and an experimental agent primitive brings AI agents into your pipelines as first-class components.
Join Phil Ewels (Senior Product Manager for OSS) and Ben Sherman (Senior Software Engineer) for a walkthrough of everything new in Nextflow 26.10. We’ll start with a recap of the key updates, then show them in action with a live demo built on a real-world example.
-
Nextflow 26.10 overview: A recap of what’s new, from Global Cache and CLI type checking to an agent skill that migrates your pipelines to the latest syntax.
-
Pipeline composition: Chain pipelines into a single end-to-end run, with no shell scripts or external orchestration.
-
Workflow modules: Publish and install reusable subworkflows from the Nextflow Registry, each bundled with its own dependencies.
-
Agentic Nextflow: Bring AI agents into your pipelines with the same caching, lineage and portability as every other task.
-
Live demo: Watch us build a meta-pipeline using pipeline composition, workflow modules and the agent primitive.
