Scientific Workflow Developer

Barcelona / Customer Success / Remote

Join our growing team as a Scientific Workflow Developer and work directly with our customers and the Nextflow community on creating impactful projects. We are looking for experienced Nextflow bioinformaticians to join the core team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop best-practice scientific workflows using Nextflow
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain pipelines in Nextflow Tower made available to computationalists and experimentalists to analyze and visualize data
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain cloud data infrastructures capable of processing data related to next-generation sequencing, imaging, and machine learning and related large datasets
  • Understand the biological application and scientific needs underlying the relevant scientific workflows
  • Summarize methods and communicate findings to diverse audiences, which may include: R&D scientists, customers, marketing teams, IP/regulatory teams, and upper management
  • Engage with customers on requirements, developing project deliverables, and coordinating the execution of projects
  • Provide professional bioinformatics services including NGS analysis, data harmonization, curation and custom pipeline development, etc.
  • Consult with biotech and pharma professionals across multiple areas
  • Collaborate internally with content, research, and software development teams
  • Creating presentations and providing written and verbal updates on scientific findings
  • Work with computationalists to improve the time efficiency and multithreading of algorithms to be run in high-performance computing environments
  • Interfacing with a team of computational and experimental biologists to aid in data infrastructure, pipeline automation, and data usability
  • Collaborating with multiple internal groups on cross-functional projects
  • Creating presentations and providing written and verbal updates on scientific findings

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant field (engineering-focused)
  • 4+ years of industry experience relevant to scientific workflows and software development
  • Proficiency in one or more common programming languages including Python, R, and Java
  • Significant experience with Linux command-line tools and shell scripting
  • In-depth experience with NGS analysis pipelines and algorithms for a variety of data types (e.g. RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, WGS, ATAC-seq)
  • Experience with clusters and public cloud (AWS, Google, Azure), systems, and architectures plus a willingness to learn more
  • Self-motivated and a proactive thinker – can work independently and in teams
  • Excellent written and communication skills presenting scientific data
  • Customer-oriented enjoys working with customers and helping find solutions
  • Ability to communicate effectively around results and process with biologists and domain experts
  • Strong ability to multi-task and track ongoing projects
  • Excellent communication skills, and enjoys working in a collaborative team environment

Nice-to-have

  • Ph.D. degree (in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Biology or a related discipline) plus 3 to 5 years of post-graduate experience in the biomedical field
  • Have built, orchestrated, and maintained data infrastructures and scalable pipelines for large datasets (millions of data points)
  • Solid track record of research in cancer, biomedical, or related areas as demonstrated by publications
  • Experience with nf-core and other Nextflow community pipelines
